The Whistler Stout Cask Finish Irish Whiskey is a beer-cask release from Boann Distillery in County Meath, where the Cooney family also brews under the Boyne Brewhouse name. The distillery finishes its blended Irish whiskey in casks that previously matured stout, and bottles it at 43% ABV (86 proof). The stout casks bring roasted malt, cocoa and a touch of coffee to the whiskey's smooth base of honey and vanilla, with a creamy texture and a finish that echoes a pint of dry stout. It is a natural pairing with a pint of Guinness, and it makes a rich Irish coffee or a chocolate-tinged Old Fashioned. This 750ml bottle is a good pick for beer drinkers and a distinctive alternative to the better-known stout-finished Irish whiskeys.
