A Little Find｜ Other Products ｜Oka Yuzu Japanese Flavored Vodka

Oka Yuzu comes from the Tsutsumi Distillery in Kumamoto Prefecture — Kyushu's rice basket — a traditional producer with nearly 150 years of history, and almost everything about it breaks flavored-vodka convention. The base is Oka's rice vodka: pot distilled five times from 100% Japanese rice, then filtered through bincho tan, an artisanal Japanese charcoal measured as the purest carbon charcoal in the world, chosen over traditional birch for superior texture. The yuzu goes in twice: locally harvested pulp and peels join a sixth distillation, then fresh peels macerate in the finished spirit for a full week — an uncommon second step that imparts real citrus-oil intensity and a natural pale yellow hue (it's only lightly filtered, so a touch of sediment is authentic). It won Best in Category at the 2024 San Francisco World Spirits Competition. Expect bright, juicy yuzu on the nose, opening into a vibrant, oily palate dialed in on yuzu peel with jasmine blossom, underripe mango, white tea, and a pleasant peel bitterness, finishing creamy as the citrus oils bloom. Yuzu's aroma is far more complex than lemon or lime, and this captures it fresh off the tree — spectacular in a highball with soda, a yuzu martini, or anywhere citrus vodka goes.
