Arran Sauternes Cask Finish Scotch Whisky｜ Other Products

The Sauternes finish is one of Arran's original experimental cask projects — it existed in the distillery's earliest years and eventually earned a permanent spot in the core range. Sauternes is Bordeaux's iconic sweet white wine, made from grapes affected by noble rot, which concentrates them toward honeyed intensity. Arran's signature unpeated Lochranza spirit spends roughly eight years in ex-bourbon barrels first, then finishes in Sauternes casks sourced from an artisan producer, bottled at a generous 50% ABV, non-chill filtered with no added color. Expect sparkling gold color and a genuinely sweet, fruit-driven nose — honey, tinned pineapple, banana, honeydew melon, nectarine, apricot, white grape, and vanilla pastry. The palate turns spicier than the nose suggests, with marzipan, sweet ginger, lemon syrup, tropical mango, and a floral, resinous edge running through white pepper. Whiskybase's community rates it 83.74 across 476 ratings, and one reviewer called it possibly the best fusion of whisky and wine flavors they'd tasted, noting the 50% ABV never announces itself — the whisky stays light, floral, and fresh, and probably doesn't need water. Sits alongside Arran's Port and Amarone finishes as one of the distillery's most distinctive expressions.
